Catcher in the Rye

So J. D. Salinger died recently and I came across this beat-up, old, yellowed copy of The Catcher in the Rye. Initially as I read the first few chapters I thought,"Oh - now I remember why I didn't get into this book when I was in my teens or twenty's". But as I read further I really grew to like Holden (the main character). And I found myself agreeing with him in many ways. If you've not read the book in awhile I recommend giving it "a go" again. There is a very good obituary for J.D. Salinger in the New York Times. I'm intrigued to read more of published writing and the memoirs written about him by his daughter and a former lover.

Yes! I've taught this book a few times, and I reread it the week he died. Love, love, LOVE it! Glad you're getting a new appreciation of Catcher!
