Day 2 on the road

There was a beautiful moon in the sky at 3:41 a.m.  which is when we departed Needles, California.

This is near the boarder between Arizona and New Mexico. Beautiful walls of rock near Interstate 40.  
And I did request and pay for a compact rental car.  The Impala behind Jasper, Casey and Bobbi is the choice of the rental car company.  

Staying the night in Santa Rosa, New Mexico at the Holiday Inn. Even though I'm sitting in a chair while writing this - it feels like the road is still rolling beneath my body.  Time to get horizontal... 

Picking up Jasper

Here we are at IAD at 6am this morning.  Curt is flying Jetblue to Boston for his Mom's birthday celebration.  I am flying Jetblue to Long Beach, CA. to pick up Jasper the Catahoula Leopard Dog.  Jasper initially belonged to my Mom and Jim. He then lived with my brother Jason's family for the last 18 months. And now he is coming to Washington, DC with me. Lucky me!

Here is the nice person at the kennel were I picked up Jasper today.  Isn't he a handsome boy?
Big time tired but still smiling.  Everything is going smoothly.
Jasper is enjoying his new bed atop the backseat cushion.  He is a happy traveler.
Staying at a Hotel 6 in Needles, CA tonight.  Here is the view.
This fellow gets a lot of second looks.  But he really doesn't pay attention to the admiration that he draws.

Green Soup

This is a green soup that I made tonight.  The base recipe came from vegetarianepicure.com.   But I used a different set of greens; baby bok choy, spinach, lacinto kale, flat leaf parsley and cilantro.  The garnish is toasted sunflower, pumpkin and cashews.  It was very delicious, low fat and healthy.
