Another Kimya Dawson song

Love this song "Loose Lips" see link to the right to play.

Blackberries for Vegan Ice Cream

Barking Dog and I have been testing the Vegan Ice Cream recipe that I posted in May with other kinds of fruit.  A few weeks ago we used peaches and nectarines and last night we used these organic Blackberries.  If anyone tries the recipe with other kinds of fruit please let me know how it comes out.

Kimya Dawson song

Found Kimya Dawson and her wonderful song "It's Been Raining" via kitteekake's blog. I've felt like raining at times today - so it was sweet to discover this little treasure. To play the song go to the side bar titled "It's Been Raining" to the right of this post.

Riverside Cafe Mosaics

Yesterday I also visited the Riverside Center a new Cafe and Preformance space in NE DC. Here are a few photos of the mosaics that grace the exterior of the Riverside Center. Notice the reflection in the mirror shards of the Marvin Gaye Park across the street.

Below is a beautiful integration of tile, mirror, buttons, metal keys and colored grout.  Not pictured are mosaics that line the interior edge of the curbs along nearby sections of street.
I highly recommend a visit to see these amazing pieces of public art.  Try to go on a sunny day to enjoy the bright light bouncing off the mirrors and jewel- like tiles.

Marvin Gaye Park & Heritage Trail

Washington DC has a hidden jewel in Ward 7 called the Marvin Gaye Park and Heritage Trail.  The trail runs for 2 miles along the Watts Branch Stream Valley. Jasper and I went with Steve Coleman of Washington Parks and People to experience the park.  Here is Steve and Jasper in front of the mosaic welcoming people into Marvin Gaye Park. The piano keys at Marvin's hands are composed of mirror shards and tile which shimmer.
An urban oasis along the stream.  See the Down by the Riverside Campaign page for details on how to get there and help with the re-vitalization efforts along the stream.
